Everyone was efficient and made sure we were all comfortable and taken good care of! The office has such a welcoming feel to it too, which is always such a plus! We highly recommend this office!

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take?

Removing wisdom teeth can vary depending on factors such as the number of teeth being extracted, their position (fully or partially in bone), and any potential complications. At Today Dental of Northlake an average, a straightforward extraction of four wisdom teeth usually takes about 30 minutes (not including pre and post op time). If teeth are impacted (embedded in the jawbone) or located horizontally, the procedure may take longer.

It's important to note that the time spent in the dental office includes pre-operative preparations, administration of anesthesia or sedation, the actual extraction process, and post-operative monitoring. Your dentist or oral surgeon will provide you with an estimate of the expected duration based on your specific case during the pre-operative consultation.

What is the cost?

The cost of wisdom tooth removal can vary widely depending on factors: the complexity of the extraction, the type of anesthesia or sedation used, position of teeth in the bone (ie fully vs partially impacted in bone). At your Northlake dentist, an average cost of four wisdom tooth extractions including IV sedation ranges from $1,400 -$2,400. Come in for a no charge, complimentary consultation to get an accurate, no hidden cost estimate.

What to expect at your 1st visit?

We'll review your medical history and discuss the procedure with you. X-rays will be taken to assess the position and condition of the wisdom teeth. We’ll provide a detailed treatment plan including costs, timing and go over any questions you might have. Before the extractions, we’ll administer local anesthesia and in most cases IV sedation to ensure a pain-free experience. Once you’re numb and/or sedated, the extractions will take place, involving the careful removal of the wisdom teeth. Post-extraction, gauze will be placed at the extraction site to control bleeding, and you'll receive instructions for post-operative care. The entire process typically takes about 60 to 90 minutes, including preparation and recovery time.

How long should recovery take?

After wisdom teeth removal, it’s common to have postoperative effects like swelling and mild discomfort for 5-7 days. In most cases you’ll be prescribed pain medicine to manage any pain. Initial bleeding can be controlled with gauze pads, and reducing swelling is possible by applying an ice pack to the face. In most cases at Today Dental of Northlake, during the procedure, we’ll give you medications through your IV to help with post-operative swelling and pain. We’ll provide detailed post-operative care instructions, including dietary restrictions and oral hygiene practices. Stick to soft foods and liquids initially, gradually transitioning to a normal diet as healing progresses. Attend follow-up appointments to monitor healing and address concerns.

Do I need my wisdom teeth removed?

The decision to remove wisdom teeth depends on various factors, and it is typically made after a thorough examination by your Today Dental of Northlake dentist. Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, may need to be removed if they are causing issues such as impaction, crowding, pain, infection, or damage to adjacent teeth. Even if wisdom teeth are not causing immediate problems, we may recommend their removal to prevent potential future complications (which is very common).
